The Cost of Convenience

There is a theory as to why many Americans are dissatisfied with their jobs and relationships. People are growing more and more impatient. With the popularization of services like two-day shipping, the feeling of instant gratification (not to mention a shorter attention span) is becoming widespread.

By contrast, the paths to job satisfaction and relationships are “slow, meandering, uncomfortable, messy processes” (Simon Sinek, well-known TED talk speaker and author).

Making an impact on the world and other highly fulfilling rewards come after a long and arduous journey. We cannot be too quick to quit a project or job. We may have instant shipping, unlimited access to TV shows, and speedy internet, but we cannot expect instant success.
