The Simplicity Movement

Americans are known for having a lot of stuff. A disproportionate amount of resources are consumed by America. One source states that if everyone in the world consumed the way Americans do, we would need four planets like Earth.

The media tells people to value those with luxury items. Your movie star “friends” on screen (you spend time with them and are influenced by them) have diamond rings and sports cars. While third-world countries get filled with toxic e-waste, ads insist you should by several versions of the same type of device. Our level of consumerism can be seen as irresponsible.

Hence, the Simplicity Movement came about to reduce people’s materialistic and consumeristic drives. The movement reminds us that natural resources are limited and fast disappearing. More and newer is not always better. Save your money.
